The brief
Crypto had a trust problem — and a design one
In 2022, the crypto market was reeling from high-profile collapses and eroding user trust. HKD.com — a Hong Kong-based cryptocurrency exchange — was competing against Binance, Coinbase, and dozens of regional platforms, all targeting the same Gen-Z and millennial traders. The problem wasn't just awareness. The entire category looked the same: dark UIs, aggressive trading dashboards, jargon-heavy onboarding. For first-time traders, every exchange felt intimidating. HKD.com needed to stand apart as the platform that made crypto feel approachable without sacrificing the trust signals that a financial product demands.
The approach
Designing trust into every touchpoint
I led the full rebrand — from visual identity and brand guidelines to marketing collateral and go-to-market assets. The strategy was to flip the category's visual conventions: light, clean interfaces where competitors went dark; vibrant gradients that felt optimistic where others felt clinical; typography that explained rather than assumed. Every touchpoint — from onboarding flows to social content to event materials — was designed to lower perceived barriers while building the credibility that a regulated financial platform requires. The brand system was built modular, so the marketing team could produce consistent assets at speed across campaigns and markets.
The outcome
A crypto brand people could tell apart
The rebrand gave HKD.com a distinct look in a category where most platforms look alike. The identity system covered brand guidelines, digital assets, event collateral and social templates, giving the marketing team a toolkit to produce campaign content quickly across regional markets.
